Saturday morning pottery class is series of our regular People’s Pottery Classes, a model that allows us to bring together beginner and intermediate students for the regular sessions of making and learning together. We will be working alongside on different creative projects, exploring techniques and materials in a friendly and supportive environment.
At the adult People’s Pottery Class beginners will be introduced to various methods of using clay to produce functional and artistic works. We will be exploring techniques like pinching, slab building, coiling, press-moulding, throwing and turning, slip decoration and glazing. Sessions will start with a demonstration of a technique and follow with plentiful making time.
We will explore decoration through the use of slips, glazes and experimentation with surface texture.
The workshop offers an an opportunity to work with 4 types of clay including both earthenware and stoneware.
Returning students will benefit from the class and are encouraged use this space continue practicing thechinques, developing their style, and building their practice with full support of an instructor.
The emphasis of saturday morning pottery class is learning in a friendly and sociable environment, with each individual working at their own pace doing what they enjoy most. Students are encouraged to investigate new ideas, techniques and the work of contemporary and historical makers if they are so inclined.
We will make functional items such as bowls, pots, jugs and dishes as well as experimental sculptural models and tiles.
All materials and firings are included in the price.
